Change Predicted In Future Control

Industrial Correspondent WELLINGTON, Aug. 16,

The future government of the waterfront' industry will be the next consideration now that a decision has been given in the Mountparlc dispute. During the dispute the Waterside Union’s two representatives, Mr R. J. O’Donnell and Mr J. Flood, resigned’ from the Waterfront Industry Commission, and 'the Minister® of Labour, Mr McLagan, brought down amending regulations to empower Judge Dalglish, the two employers’ representatvies, and the Government nominee to carry on with the powers of the full commission.

The Waterside Union, therefore, has no representation on the commission, and will not have any unless the regulations are further amended.

An indication of .the union’s likely attitude was given by its national president, .Mr Barnes, to-night, when, during the course of comment on the Mountpark decision, he said ..that if commission control were to continue on the New Zealand waterfront there must be a return of the wharf union delegates to their seats and a “spring cleaning of some of the very bad aspects of the present set-up.” In Government quarters there has been attention given to the suggestion that a Royal Commission should inquire into the waterfront industry. This and other propositions for the future are being canvassed, and will be a subject for early decision.
