VALUABLE HELP
ADVENTIST FOOD PARCEL SCHEME “After more than three years of operation, the Adventist food parcel scheme is still growing.” said Pastor W. A. Townend, of Christchurch, youth and welfare secretary of the South New Zealand Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, who is visiting Dunedin. Under this scheme, every Adventist church in Australia and New' Zealand continues regularly to post food parcels overseas. Pastor Townend, who directs the South Island section of Adventist world-wide welfare work, said that a recent letter •from an Austrian mother stated: "Food for one week is equal to the normal supply for one day. We thank God your Dorcas Societies sent us help. Were it not for these practical assurances of sympathy, many of us would not now be alive.” A mother in Germany wrote: "Many children of all ages are without clothing of any kind, and thus many an article of clothing which a parent surely needs is made over to clothe the boy Or girl. But there comes a time when even this is no longer possible.” A letter from a church leader stated: “Clothing is so scarce that the people would freeze in their rags in winter were it not for the help given from lands outside Europe.” While in Dunedin, Pastor Townend met the leaders of the Dunedin Dorcas Society, whom he warmly commended for their latest report, which shows that over 50J) warm garments and almost 3001 b of food have been posted overseas during recent months.
