CRUTCHINGS SALE
FIXTURE NEXT MONDAY REVERSION TO AUGUST AUCTION The first wool sale of the season In Dunedin will be held in the Burns Hall on Monday, when approximately 6000 bales of crutchings will be offered. The catalogue will include 500 bales of stock wool. The holding of the sale in August this year is a reversion to the practice which was in operation prior to last season when the first sale was held in November, and thus developed into a wool sale of fair proportions instead of merely a crutchings sals. The lateness of last year’s first auction and the increasing prevalence of the practice of pre-lambing shearing resulted in a proportion of early-shorn fleece wool being offered, but apart from the crutchings, there will be only oddments forward this year. A buoyant sale, with a full representation of buyers, is expected next Monday and strong crutchings are expected to be in demand. The season in Otago has been favourable for the woolgrower and quality is expected to be a feature of the lots offered. In view of the high prices which ruled throughout last season considerable interest will attach to the sale. Crutching sales have already been held in Wellington, Wanganui, Auckland and Napier and the first South Island sale of the 1948-49 season will be held in Christchurch to-morrow.
