WOOL STOCKPILE
RAPID LIQUIDATION PERMANENT ORGANISATION FORESEEN P.A. AUCKLAND, Aug. 15. The progress made in the liquidation of war-time- accumulated wool stocks and the prices realised must be regarded as completely satisfactory, said Mr G. A. Duncan, chairman of the New Zealand Wool Disposal Commission, when he arrived in the Corinthic from London. to-day. He had been attending meetings of the Joint Organisation in London. Mr Duncan said that although the liquidation of Australian and South African accumulated stocks had been more rapid than in New Zealand, the sales of Dominion Joint Organisation wool had exceeded the expectations of growers. It was believed originally that it would take 12 years to clear the accumulated stockpiles, but the clearance had been more rapid than was expected in terms of the marketing plan. A conference to review the whole marketing procedure would be held in 1950, said Mr Duncan. The indications were that Australia, South Africa and New Zealand would welcome a permanent organisation to replace the Joint Organisation after the liquidation of the present accumulated stocks.
