WATERSIDERS’ STRIKE

WHEAT SHIPMENTS DELAYED NEWCASTLE SILOS FILLED Rec. 10 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 12. Because of a week-old strike by' watersiders who are demanding extra labour for handling certain types of cargo, thousands of tons of wheat cannot be brought to Newcastle for shipping. The loading of wheat at port silos cannot continue until the watersiders resume and trucking of the wheat from country centres has been suspended. The Newcastle silos are filled to the capacity of 27,000 tons. Thousands of tons of last season’s wheat have still to be brought to Newcastle by rail and road, and the new season’s crop will begin to arrive in November.
