MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIA

ARRANGEMENTS FOR TEAMS Members of the New Zealand women’s basketball team for the match against Australia at Forbury Park on Saturday will assemble in Dunedin to-day, with Mrs H. D. Muir, president of the New Zealand Basketball Association, as manager. The Australian team will arrive • to-morrow. The Otago Women’s Basketball Association is tendering an “at home ” in the Somerset Lounge to members of both teams to-morrow night, when Mrs W. B. Taverner, president of the Otago Basketball Association, will be in the chair.

A civic reception will be accorded both teams on Friday morning, and in the absence of the Mayor, Sir Donald a welcome will be extended by Cr W. B. Taverner, with whom will be associated representatives of the Otago and New Zealand Basketball Associations.

The final choice of the New Zealand team for the test match will be made later in the present week, five players requiring to be omitted from the 12 originally named. The test match will be preceded by the Otago-Southland representative match at 2 p.m., the international game commencing at 3 p.m. The referee for the test will be Mrs J. A. Davie, formerly Miss Joan Young. In addition to these matches, eignt other games will be played, the first commencing at 10 a.m. At 1.45 p.m. there will be a march past of all the teams, led by the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band. Saturday’s match is the first test between New Zealand and Australia to be played in the Dominion. When a New Zealand team toured Australia in 1938 the honours rested with Australia. The only Otago player in the New Zealand side on that occasion was Miss E. Sinclair, now Mrs E. Richardson, who took part in club games in Dunedin earlier in the present season. The only representative from Otago in the New Zealand team on this occasion is Miss Lena Johnstone.
