WELLINGTON CRUTCHING SALE t VERY SATISFACTORY PRICES P.A. WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. The official report on the Wellington crutching sale held to-day states:— The first crutching sale of the 1948-49 season was held in Wellington to-day, with an exceptionally large bench of buyers in attendance. -The offering comprised 6729 bales of crutchings, 318 bales of slipe wool, and 12,605 bales of Joint Organisation stock wool. The crutchings opened attractively, but were lighter in condition than the previous year’s, however, owing to the drought conditions experienced in some districts.

There was quite a variation in the growth of the offering. In most cases the crutchings were well grown, but due to the dry season some lots were more dusty than usual. Competition was very keen for the crutchings, and all countries were represented, the realisations being very satisfactory Short and second crutchings sold at comparatively high rates. The range of prices for crutchings is:—
