AUSTRALIAN SOCCER TEAM SPEEDY AND RESOURCEFUL P.A. HAMILTON, Aug. 4. Although both teams clearly snowed the effects of not playing together before, particularly in the first spell, the opening match of the Australian Soccer tourists against an Auckland provincial team at Hamilton to-day proved that the visitors should enjoy a successful tour. They wqn the game, in which there were many bright flashes, by 6 goals to nil. The outstanding player on the field was C. Drummond, the left full-back and captain of the visitors, who played a magnificent game. Time after time, by well-placed, powerful kicks, he turned defence into attack, i Even when bustled, Drummond’s clearing kicks were always directed to one of his forwards who carried the clearing kick straight into attack. The speed of the visitors and their excellent positional play proved another factor that gave the home team little chance. Cunningham and Hughes were two of the visiting forwards who impressed with clever footwork. The centre-half, Wilson, dominated the centre of the field, and he and Gibb repeatedly kept their forwards well supplied with the ball.
