BEST SALE OF SEASON P.A. CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 4. The store sheep entry at Addington today was 1853, comprising 1011 hoggets, 727 ewes, and 115 wethers. The quauty was particularly good, and the sale was easily the best of the season. The top price was 50s 6d for a truck lot of open-woolled ewe hoggets from Mid-Canterbury and a good line of Corriedales sold at 445. The best price for wether hoggets was 455. and easily the best sale was one of 103 shorn, rather backward in condition, which made 37s 6d. Only two sales of inferior lots finished at 29s 6d and 29s 3d. A good lot of five-year Romneys, heavy in lamb to Southdowns, made 525. A line of 132 crossbreds made 47s 6d, and a line of 210 halfbreds made 42s 9d to 435. Inferior sold down to 30s. A line of 105 wethers made 49s 6d.

The first spring lambs of the season were forward, and the entry totalled 42. The quality was good. Values: Best spring lambs made to 62s Id: good, 44s to 48s; medium. 35s 6d to 435. The fat hogget entry was 264. Values: Extra prime hoggets made to 87s Id; prime, 51s to 565; good, 43s to 495; medium, 37s to 425; light, 32s to 355. The * fat sheep entry totalled 2200. Values: Best show wethers made to £8; extra prime heavy wethers, to 114 s Id; prime heavy. 75s to 90s; prime medium-weight, 67s to 735; ordinary, 55s to 655; light and unfinished. 40s to 525. Show hoggets made to £5 15s; show ewes, to £4; prime heavy ewes, to 87s Id; prime, 60s to 70s; medium, 48s to 58s; ordinary, 41s to 465; light and unfinished. 33s to 395. The fat cattle entry numbered 460. Prices rose £1 to £1 10s a head. Best beef made to 67s 6d per 1001 b, with a few sales at 70s. Good made 50s to 57s 6d; medium, 42s 6d to 47s 6d. Best cow made to 50s; secondary, to 42s 6d. Values: Show steers made to £4l 7s 6d; extra prime heavy steers, to £33 17s 6d; prime heavy, £25 10s to £27 10s; prime mediumweight, £2l to £24 10s: ordinary and light, £ls to £l9. Show heifers made to £27 10s; extra prime heifers, to £23 17s 6d; prime. £ls 10s to £l9 10s; ordinary and light, £ll to £l4 10s. Show cows made to £23; extra prime cows, to £23 7s 6d; prime, £l3 to. £l6 10s; ordinary and light, £7 10s to £l2. The porker yarding was smaller than for some weeks, but values were easier by 2s to 3s. Choppers offered in medium numbers. About 20 baconers were yarded, and prices were 10s to 15s higher. Values: Light porkers made £3 9s 6d to £3 17s 6d; medium, £3 19s 6d to £4 12s 6d; heavy, £4 17s 6d to £5 12s 6d. Choppers made £4 Is to £lO, with two show choppers at £l4 18s 6d and £l4 16s. Medium baconers made £7 Is 6d to £7 7s 6d; heavy. £7 9s 6d to £7 17s 6d; extra heavy, £7 19s 6d to £8 7s 6d. The average price per lb was 101 d to lljd.
