PROPOSED LOANS
SPECIAL MEETING TO BE CALLED GREEN ISLAND BOROUGH A special meeting of the Green Island Borough Council will be called soon to discuss the total amount of loans required to be raised for proposed improvement works and purchase of plant. This was decided by the council at its monthly meeting last night, at which the Mayor. Mr J. Boomer, presided Councillors con sidered that the subject was too involved for a final decision to be reached in the course of an ordinary meeting. The council decided to raise a further drainage loan of £2500 to provide for sewer extensions, as a result of a report from the borough engineer. Exception to the recommendation that two delegates be sent to the Municipal Associations’ 1949 conference at Napier was taken by Cr F. Gray. He said it was a waste of public money to send two representatives when one was sufficient Other councillors disagreed with Cr Gray, whose amendment that only one delegate be appointed was lost. The original recommendation that the Mayor and town clerk should represent the borough was adopted. The council decided to ask the Railways Department that the Sunday night express passing through the borough at 11 p.m. be halted to set down passengers at Green Island Station.
Accounts passed for payment were:— District fund, £3571 3s 4d; streets improvement loan, £lO2 19s 7d; drainage loan, £2B 19s 9d; cinema, £3B 9s 7d.
