ARBOR DAY

ANNUAL TREE-PLANTING WORK OF SCHOOLS The annual Arbor Day function for the city schools will be held on Tuesday, August 17, but if the weather is unsuitable for tree-planting the ceremony will take place on the following Thursday, Pupils from the upper classes of some of the schools will be conveyed by Corporation buses to Mt. Cargill where in past years pinus insignis trees have been planted. It is anticipated that on this occasion 1000 pines will be planted on the reserve by the school children. Some of the schools in the St. Kilda district will take part in tree-planting on de Carle Park on the same date.

The Dunedin Amenities Society has offered to supply speakers on the day in question where they are required. Final arrangements for the planting have been left in the hands of Cr D. C Jolly, chairman of the Reserves Committee of the City Council. Mr E. S. Green, chief agricultural inspector, Department of Education, and the superintendent of reserves, Mr M. R Skipworth.
