“SHOUTING” ISSUE

COMPENSATION BY UNION FORMER MEMBER’S VIEWS The executive of the Hotel Workers’ Union of Otago was not empowered to compensate any of its members who might become unemployed as a result of the present “ shouting ” issue, Mr T. F. Mulhern, a former executive official told the Daily Times yesterday. No move had been made to consult all members of the union on the proposed step, and until this was done the decision would be unconstitutional, he claimed. More than half the members of the union were workers in hospitals and private hotels, Mr Mulhern pointed out. and the executive was overstepping its bounds by not attempting to obtain their sanction to the proposal.
