COMMUNIST PLOT
PRODUCTION DELAYS MR HOLLAND’S VIEWS His firm belief that there was in existence a world-wide plot to hold up production everywhere, as part of a well-established pattern to assist the spread of Communism, was expressed by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, at a National Party rally in the Town Hall last night. He said that industrial troubles, defiance of law and order, and shortages of vital supplies created discontent, which was the natural bleeding ground of Communism. Many people were, consciously or unconsciously, playing the Communist game and the skilled, highly trained and fanatical Communists were only too pleased to have theeir deadly work done for them. “ I only wish that I could say that all private enterprises and all capitalists were as assiduous and showed the same fervour and enthusiasm for their cause as the Communists and Socialists do for theirs," he said. “ Even more regrettable is the fact that vital supplies for Britain, to whom we owe a debt we can never repay, are being deliberately held up on the wharves of this country. In Britain herself the same wreckers are holding up shipping. In Western Europe, meat production, coal, steel, foodstuffs, and edible fats are all being affected by the same influence,” he said. “ The world, if it is going to be free, must fight this curse. If not we shall surely go under. Above all else, the National Party takes its stand determined to fight these enemies of freedom to the last."
