TWELFTH WIN FOR SEASON

Dark Arrow, the winner of the Birthday Handicap and the Provincial Handicap, the two principal races on the flat at Wingatui, has been raced no fewer than 26 times this season, and he has been a model of consistency, his record being 12 wins, four seconds, two thirds, and one fourth. He was unplaced in his first race of the season, but then came five wins in a row, the last of which was in a seven-furlong event at Reefton, when he carried 10 stone. In his next four races he collected a third placing and then followed two more wins, one of them at Reefton and the other at Greymouth. After two more placed performances he scored again at Greymouth and Hororata. His next three races proas many placings and he followed this up with a win in the Autumn Handicap, of one mile and a-quarter at the Wairarapa meeting in March. He had a run of outs in his next three races, and his last placed performance before being brought to Dunedin was at the South Canterbury meeting last month, when he finished third to Mestiza and Broie in the principal handicap. A four-year-old gelding by Nightly from Mataa, Dark Arrow won his races at Wingatui like a good horse and his future prospects look bright.
