Ministerial The Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, returned to Wellington by air yesterday.
Mr W. E. Clouston, the manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Invercargill branch, will retire on July 31. His successor will be Mr J. E. Hamilton, who is at present manager of the Wanganui branch. Mr Clouston joined the bank at Blenheim in 1904 and he was stationed at Wellington, Stratford and Paparoa until he left New Zealand in 1916 with a reinforcement draft for service overseas. On his return in 1919 he resumed work at the Wellington branch and in 1928 he was transferred to Oamaru as accountant. About a year later he was appointed accountant at Dunedin and from there he went to Auckland to take a similai- position. Dater, he was promoted to assistant manager at Auckland and In 1935 he went to Invercargill as manager. A tribute to “ one of the most faithtul servants the city has had ” was paid by Cr L. M. Wright when bringing the retirement of Mr A. Watson, resident engineer at Waipori, to' the City Council’s attention last evening. Mr Watson had been in the corporation's employ for 33 years. Mr L. C. Greig, engineer-manager of the Transport Department, has left for Wellington, where he will attend the sitting of the Tramway Tribunal to-mor-row. Mr W. B. Richards, president of the New Zealand Tramway Employees’ Union, left yesterday to attend the sitting of the tribunal. Among the business to be discussed is the Dunedin dispute concerning the payment of relief drivers.
