SOUTH ISLAND GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP WOON’S CONSISTENT PLAY P.A. TIMARU, June 7. D. L. Woon (Canterbury) won the South Island Golf Championship in a convincing manner at the Highfield course to-day, winning his semi-final game against G. A. Ussher (Timaru) 3 and 2, and beating in the final P. Durning (Timaru) by a similar margin. Woon stood head and shoulders above the field, winning the qualifying round by a margin of eight strokes from the runner-up, and averaging 70.5 for the six rounds on a scratch score of 70. More consistent golf has never been seen on the -course. In the final of the South Island Plate, A. Gibbs (Otago) beat H. J. Gosset (Canterbury) 7 and 5, and went on to equal the unofficial course record of 65, held by G. A. Ussher. He played superlative golf, his score including eight “ birdies" and an “ eagle.” Senior Championship Semi-final P. Durning (Timaru) beat J. N. Lemon (Otago) 5 and 4, D. L. Woon (Canterbury) beat G. A. Ussher (Timaru) 3 and 2. Final Woon beat Durning 3 and 2. South Island Plate Second Round A. Gibbs' (Otago) beat J. B. Forrest .Timaru) 4 and 3. H. J. Gosset (Canterbury) beat J. L. R. Mackay (Timaru) 6 and 5. Final Gibbs beat Gosset 7 and 5.
