INVESTIGATOR FROM AMERICA P.A. AUCKLAND. May 2(j. On a private visit to report to his State medical association, Dr W. E. Neal, of Huntington. West Virginia, arrived by sir from Sydney to-day He said that pressure groups in America were keen on socialised medicine. One proposal was for a Federal nationalised, service and another would make public health a State responsibility, with perhaps a Federal subsidy for the poorer States Dr Neal’s view is that free medicine and medical attention should be given to the indigent and under-paid, but not to those able to pay. I realise that certain reforms are due, but do not and cannot see anything so radical as to upset professional relations with patients.” he said.
