- STORE SHEEP FIRMER EXCELLENT PORKER SALE P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, May 26. The store sheep entry at Addington today totalled 2568, comnrising 731 lambs, 1410 ewes, and 427 wethers. A small yarding of iambs was keenly sought after and many buyers were unable to fill their requirements even at prices 2s better. The top price was 33s 6'd for a useful line of Romney ewe lambs and 32s 6d was paid for a pen of wether lambs. Halfbred ewe lambs of good quality made to 32s 6d, Best lambs made to 33s 6d; good, 28s to 31s; medium, 24s to 275; others, down to ißs. The top ewe price was 42s 6d for a iot of good style Romneys. Aged ewes also brought about 2s higher. The top price was 36s Gd for a line of four- six and eight-tooths from Banks Peninsula, and 35s 6d was paid for a similar line. Top price for fine-wooiied ewes was 345. Best made from 32s to 36s 6d; medium, 24s to 30s; aged, down to 10s. An excellent line of station halfbred wethers topped the market at 40s. Other lines made from 26s to 33s Gd. The fat lamb entry numbered 1756. The sale was good throughout at prices up to Is better. Values:—Extra prime fat lambs, to 57s Id; prime, 44s to 495; good, 38s to 435; medium, 33s to 375; light, 27s to 31s.

The fat sheep entry totalled 5750. Some excellent quality wethers were included. After a slow start at values 3s lower, wethers improved to last week's prices, and the inquiry for ewes was sound throughout with lighter ewes a shade easier but above schedule. Part of a line of six-tooth ewes from South Canterbury made 59s 7d. Values:—Extra prime heavy wethers, to 65s 7d; prime heavy, 53s to 575; prime medium-weight, 48s to 525; ordinary. 43s to 475; light and unfinished, 34s to 41s. Prime heavy ewes, to 54s 7d; crime, 32s to 355; medium, 26s to 30s; ordinary, 21s to 255; light and unfinished, 15s Jto 20s. The fat cattle entry of 510 was of mixed quality. Best sold steadily at last week's rates, but others were hard to sell. Best beef made to 57s 6d per 1001 b, with a few sales at 60s. Good made from 45s to 52s 6d; medium, 37s 6d to 42s 6d; best cow, to 42s 6d; secondary, to 37s 6d. Values: —Extra prime heavy steers, to £25 7s 6d; prime heavy, £2O to £22; prime medium-weight, £l6 10s to £l9 10s; ordinary and light, £l3 10s to £l6. Extra prime heifers, to £l9 2s 6d; prime, £ll to £ls; ordinary and light, £8 to £10; extra prime cows, to £l7 17s 6d; prime, £9 to £l2; ordinary and light, £6 10s to £8 10s.

The porker entry was of medium size and the sale was excellent at prices 2s to 3s higher. The chopper yarding was also smaller and prices improved on last week’s rates by £l. A small bacon entry met with the best sale for some time a* values 3s to 5s higher. Values:—Light porkers. £3 12s 6d to £3 17s 6d; medium, £4 2s 6d to £4 12s 6d; heavy, £4 17s 6d to £5 5s Cd. Choppers. £6 8s 6d to £lO 13s Od; light baconers. £5 9s 6d to £5 17s 6d; medium, £5 19s 6d to £6 7s 6d; heavy £6 10s 6d to £6 19s d; extra heavy. £7 2s 6d to £7 7s 6d. The average price per pound was from lOd to 103 d.
