ENGAGED IN WINGATUI EVENTS

Kiltie’s appearance in the Otago Centennial Steeplechase'will add considerably to the interest in the race, and his recent performances will no doubt place him high in the order of favouritism. A six-year-old gelding by Kinnoull, he was got from Keel Row, the dam of Rebel Lad, and in his first race this season, the J. S. Hazlett Memorial Steeplechase at the Birchwood meeting in March, he finished fourth to Waihopai, Double Light, and Knockadroleen.

At the Southland meeting last month he won the Monowai Steeplechase by about 80 yards from Debater and Maharajah, and he followed this up by winning the Clifden Steeplechase on the second day of the same meeting, the place-getters being Ruling Moment and Desert Trek. The fields Kiltie has beaten have not been particularly strong, but he looks capable of holding his own against better company and it will occasion no surprise if he races prominently at Wingatui. He is trained at Mataura by his owner, Mr A. E. Redman.
