RESUMPTION TO-DAY

BALLANTYNE’S FIRE INQUIRY P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, May 24. After an adjournment since April 23, the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Ballantyne’s fire on November 18 last will resume to-morrow. The inquiry is now entering its final stage and all indications are that it will be a long one. No further adjournments except for the King’s Birthday weekend and one or two days or so before the final addresses are given, will be taken by the commission before it finally adjourns to consider and prepare its report. So far the commission has sat on 39 days, or almost the equivalent of eight five-day weeks, and it is expected that the final stages will occupy four or five weeks.
