Fashion Honours Go To Princess Margaret

NOTES FOR WOMEN

A few weeks ago Princess Margaret expressed her intention of being “ the world’s best-dressed woman one day,” writes Anne Edwards in the Daily Express. Fashion experts are of the opinion that Princess Margaret is indeed becoming a leader of fashion.

At a recent function in connection with the silver wedding celebrations, her Royal Highness's outfit' was outstanding, in spite of the fact that lovely dresses were the order of the day. It combined six of the newest (and best publicised) fashion points. The first complete new-look outfit to appear in the Royal Family, the outstanding features were: — Hat: Crownless bonnet in the same forget-me-not blue gros grain as her frock. The brim was covered with love-in-a-mist flowers. Necklace: Victorian five-strand choker necklet of pearls, finished with a jewelled clasp in front. Jacket: Tight-waisted with the new flared basque, and buttons from neck to waist. Skirt: New width, and new length, ending just above the ankles. Flat pleats are sewn round the hem to give it a swing. Handbag: A Dorothy handbag made in dress material, arid covered with the same love-in-a-mist flowers as her hat.

Shoes: Wedge style, with thick 2J-inch platform soles, sling backs, and square toes. What colour was the Queen’s dress? Hat, dress, and feather boa were in a new shade—all specially dyed for the occasion in a variant of her favourite blue. Officially described as “ silver grey,” a better name for this pale periwinkle shade would perhaps be “ silver wedding blue.”
