Conditions Against Him Grill was the last to finish in the South Canterbury Handicap, but the holding track was against him. Disappointing Form Conditions at Washdyke on Saturday suited Foxchase but his form was disappointing. Foxchase’s chance, however, was not helped when Graeme carried him out wide when the field was leaving the straight soon after the start. Day’s Racing Cancelled At a committee meeting on Saturday morning, the Poverty Bay Turf Club decided to cancel the first day of the autumn meeting and hold the second day programme, as scheduled, next Saturday. The club will apply to the District Committee for an extra day’s racing at Napier Park in July. Broke Down Representative broke down at his last start, the Onewhero Hurdles, at Pukekohe, and as the eight-year-old Nightmarch— Praise gelding had not been of much use either as a hurdler or steeplechaser, his racing career may be over. Representative earned £5588 in 75 starts, recording 11 wins, five seconds, and five thirds. On the flat he won the Great Northern Guineas and Avondale Cup, and took part in the closest of finishes for the New Zealand Cup of 1943, when Classform. Representative, Don Quex, and Palfrey reached the winning post practically in line. Representative had also won as a hurdler. Throughout his racing career he carried the colours of Mr W. S. Goosman.
