Saturday’s Games Below Standard
Rugby Competition
Saturday was an uneventful day in the championship series of the Otago Rugby Football Union and none of the games produced a high standard of play. Neither of the University teams was engaged, their game being set down to be played after the holidays. In spite of the biting wind, which was followed later in the afternoon by drizzling rain, there was an attendance of about 3000 at Carisbrook, where Pirates beat Kaikorai by 17 points to 3, and Zingari-Richmond defeated taieri by 14 points to nil. Neither game aroused much enthusiasm. Southern held its lead with a win over Training College by 9 points to 3 at the University Oval, and the two oldest clubs, Dunedin and Union, met at Tahuna Park, where Union again offered strong resistance, Dunedin winning by 11 points to 8. At Port Chalmers, the home team was held to a draw by Alhambra, each side scoring 6 points.
The results were:— Pirates 17, Kaikorai 3. Zingari-Riclimond 14, Taieri nil. Southern 9, Training College 8. Dunedin 11, Union 8. Port Chalmers 6, Alhambra 6.
