FAST' SOCCER

New Club’s Victory In a closely-contested game the newlyformed Eveline United Association Football Clyb defeated Oamaru 2—l at Takaro Park on Saturday. Light rain made accurate control of the ball difficult, but clever footwork, especially by the Eveline forwards, Thomas, Pheloung, and Codings, rewarded the team with its first win. Fluctuating play in the first spell gave Evelihe several opportunities to score, but sound defence on the part of Rae and Stevenson, backed up by Daniels in goal, held off the attackers, and the only goal was credited to J. Napier, the half time score being Oamaru 1, Eveline nil. Early in the second spell the Eveline United goalkeeper, Murray, handled the ball nicely to clear, to Sawyer, who initiated a movement which resulted in Codings opening the Eveline score. Daniels, Burt and Hagglty carried play to Eveline territory and forced a corner, but Chalmers’s kick was cleared by Lunberg. Swinging into the attack, Gardner, Thomas and Pheloung initiated a passing movement which carried play right into the Oamaru goal area, where Codings scored his second goal with a high drive which just grazed the crossbar. Oamaru did their utmost to equalise, but after an eager game Eveline won 2—l. In the backs, Sawyer and Murray played wed for Eveline, while Napier. Gibson and Rae gave sound exhibitions for Oamaru.
