VISIT TO CANADA

SIR STAFFORD CRIPPS’S PLANS LONDON. May 19. London circles confirm an Ottawa report that Sir Stafford Cripps will visit Canada for consultations with the Canadian Government. The date of the departure of the Chancellor of the Exchequer has not yet been fixed, but it will probably be towards the end of this month or early next month. The Canadian Government is anxious to discuss details of the existing bulk food contracts with Sir Stafford Cripps, and also a number of problems connected with the balance of payments and the effect of the European recovery programme. Britain on her part is anxious to review prices and arrange a system of payments which will relieve the strain upon her dollar reserves.
