COMMUNIST STOCKTAKING

POSITION OF PARTY IN NEW ZEALAND Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, May 21. A stocktaking of the position of the Communist Party in New Zealand will be made at the triennial conference of the party opening in Wellington tomorrow morning. The conference will be presided over by Mr A. Drennan, of Auckland, chairman of the National Committee of the party, and will be attended by about 60 delegates. The Australian Communists will be represented by Mr Claude Jones, president of the party in Queensland. Mr Jones, at public sessions of the conference, will reply to the allegations of the Minister of works, Mr Semple, about Communism in Queensland. The party will receive reports on the results of the recent anti-Com-munist drive initiated by the Government and developed throughout the trade union movement.
