Rationing of Tea Ends from June 1

P.A,

WELLINGTON, May 21.

Tea rationing will end on May 31. This was announced to-day by the Minister of Supply, Mr Nordmeyer.

“ Tea stocks are adequate and the forward supply position is sufficiently secure for the rationing of tea to be lifted,” said Mr Nordmeyer.* “ This is the result of continuous efforts since the overseas quotas were abolished to increase shipments of tea from India and Ceylon and so build up local stocks as quickly as possible to a point where rationing could he discontinued with confidence that the full demand could be met. This point has now been reached and tea rationing will no longer be necessary from the end of this month.

“ It is appropriate at this stage for me to repeat my assurance that similar action will be taken with sugar as soon as it is possibe for this to be done,” continued Mr Nordmeyer. “There are still difficulties in the way of lifting sugar rationing but I am hopeful that it will not be very long before these difficulties are overcome.”
