“MYSTERY” SOLVED
COUPLE'S DISAPPEARANCE HUSBAND CALLS AT POLICE STATION The “ mystery ” of the disappearance of a Wellington couple. Mr and Mrs D. Walton, former occupiers of a flat at Evans Bay, who, it was reported, had not been seen in the capital since January 16, was solved yesterday when Mr Walton walked into the Dunedin Police Station. He said that he and his wife had been in Invercargill and were passing through Dunedin on their way north. They had been detained by the state of Mrs Walton’s health, which had not been good, he added.
A Press Association message from Wellington published yesterday stated that investigations of the couple’s disappearance were being made by the police as the circumstances pointed to something unusual having happened. On Tuesday, the owner of the Waltons’ flat entered it and found the table set for a meal for two. The'flat was in spotless condition and what appeared to be all the owners’ possessions were still there. Advertisements and inquiries failed to elicit any information, concerning the whereabouts of the occupiers sa the owner of the flat reported the case to the police.
