WORK OF SESSION
MINISTER’S VIEW CONTESTED P.A. WELLINGTON, May 21. “The statement of the Postmastergeneral, Mr Hackett, that he does not expect any major legislation in the coming session of Parliament is not likely to be taken seriously,” said Mr C. M. Bowden, M.P., in an address at Karori. „ “ Has the Minister forgotten the draft of a Bill from his own office, and scheduled to come before Parliament next session? ” Mr Bowden asked. “ This proposes a central authority, which will fix all road transport and harbour ferry freights and fares. The Bill will also give extended powers >o transport licensing authorities.” Mr Hackett was also probably aware that the voluminous and important report on licensing legislation was to be considered this year. Mr Bowden said, and that the Government, proposed bringing down legislation arising from it. There might also be legislation arising from the report of the Gaming Commission.
