OTAGO POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Electric Power Board was held at Milton on Tuesday and was attended by Messrs G. Moore (chairman), J. R. Copland, A. Anderson, D. H. McElrea, R. S. Peden, R. McCaw, J. Scott. J. B. McGill and J. W. Dunn. . , The financial statement presented showed that receipts totalled £36,668 4s 7d, including £30,000 transfer from the general extension loan (1947, second portion), and £6lOl 7s from the sales of electricity. Payments amounted to £16',595 Cs 6d and accounts passed by the meeting totalled £12,816 8s 6d. A large number of applications for power was received. Some were granted and others were placed on the evergrowing waiting list. ( Messrs Curtis and Aitcheson. of the Maniototo district, waited on the board to press the need for urgency in providing power for the Gimmerburn and Puketoi areas. They pointed out that it was over 25 years since they first made a move to obtain power, and while other districts were connected up they were still without electricity. They had even been rated for the power, but were not reticulated. The prospective consumers in the district were prepared to guarantee up to almost any amount to obtain power and would like some assurance that they would be considered in the near future. — It was agreed that the engineer should make a comprehensive survey and obtain guarantees at an early date in the Gimmerburn. Puketoi. Wedderburn and Upper Kyeburn areas and submit these to the board for presentation to the Rural Reticulation Council. It was also deemed to complete the Nenthornc and Moonlight area surveys and submit these to the Rural Reticulation Council immediately.
