Tl. 47 head. Auctioneers Note — After 12 years of selective breeding the “ Floresta" Studmaster, Mr H. J. Dunn, is faced with the necessity of holding this reduction sale. For health reasons, combined with the difficulty of securing suitable labour, two-thirds of the " Floresta ” Stud will be offered for sale and will comprise females ranging in age from rising yearlings, and including a select offering of rising two-year-olds to mature cows. The Stud was founded on selections of females made from the well-known •• Glenstuart," “ Willowburn ” and " Lelburn ” Studs. The first foundation cow was " Glenstuart Alcartra Marie," a daughter of the renowned *’ Bloomtield Alcertra Clotliilde," whose dam produced the sensational record of 11451 b fat. The cream of the " Willowburn ” Stud was then acquired, and, mated to the herd sire "Ohio King Quality," a full brother to ’* Ohio Domino Sensation ” (C.O.R. 9651 b fat) the seal of success was set for this young Stud. For the follow-on sire a son of " Ohio Domino Sensation " was selected and the wisdom of this selection was later to be seen in his daughters, which were equal to the high standard of the foundation dams. The “ Lelburne ” and “ Lauderdale ” Studs provided the next herd sires, and with the acquisition In 1946 of a further group of females from the " Lelburne ” Stud, “ Floresta " was destined to become one of the leading Friesian Studs in the south for no thought then was given to this enforced reduction. The following averages give a good indication of the standard attained by the " Floresta ” Herd, including the small quotes of Grade Cows and Heifers. 1940-41 34 Cows and Heifers averaged 3931 b Fat, 276 days. 1945- 38 Cows and Heifers averaged 3461 b Fat, 253 days. 1946- 25 Cows and Heifers averaged 3961 b Fat, 364 days. The final production figures for the season just completed will be supplied at sale. Catalogues now available. Please write for one. Mrs A.
