POLICE PROMOTIONS

P.A. AUCKLAND, May 21. The promotion of Inspector S. G. Hall to superintendent of the Auckland police district is announced by the Commissioner of Police, Mr J. Cummings. At present inspector in charge of the detective branch at Auckland, Superintendent Hall succeeds Superintendent J. Sweeney, who is retiring after 43 years’ service with the force. Superintendent Sweeney will begin nearly five months’ accumulated leave on Monday. Two other promotions are those of Inspector L. R. Capp to superintendent at Hamilton and Inspector H. J-Joyce to superintendent at Palmerston North. These are newly-created posts, and are in keeping with the growth of two of New Zealand’s younger cities. The number of superintendents is now nine, compared with five a few years ago.
