THE ALEXANDRA CONFERENCE
Sir,—“Ace of Hearts ” runs true to type and his pattern is the same as is adopted by all of his kind—that of trying to mislead by dragging red herrings over the stage. His remarks regarding the failure of the Railways Department to provide railcars for Central Otago will not bear close scrutiny for the very reason that the traffic on this line does not warrant even a daily service with a passenger train, let alone expecting a railcar service to be provided. This line must be one of the most uneconomic in New Zealand, and the answer to his question as to why Napier and Palmerston North have a railcar service is that the traffic on these lines more than justifies their running. If his concluding remarks are meant to be serious regarding the Labour Party policy being as similar to New Zealand requirements 5s black is to white, he surely does not pay any tribute to the intelligence of the people who have returned a Labour Government to office in each election since 1935, and after all the mass of the people decide—not just “Ace of Hearts.” His remarks regarding the difference between Socialism and Communism are just too silly for words. He is only trying to turn the world-wide witch hunt against the so-called ” Reds ” to suit his own ends, and before he tries to link them together he should try and find out at least a little knowledge on his subject. —I am, etc., Rags.
