PETROL ALLOWANCES

Sir,—The interpretation placed on “ Curious Motorist’s ’’ letter by the oil fuel authorities surely calls for criticism. " Curious Motorist ” receives, in common with all private motorists, a coupon allotment of petrol for private purposes. The fact that he may be willing to sacrifice some of this in favour of a doctor in difficulties in no way suggests that his business licence is more than adequate. And yet the authorities indicate that sucn a sacrifice, if detected, would lead to a curtailment of his business licence. Apart altogether from the inhumanity of a department which would refuse a doctor sufficient petrol to attend the sick, surely such a policy as indicated by the authorities reeks of officialdom, bungling and lack of common reasoning. In short, it would suggest that, in common with many other Government departments, the Oil Fuel Control has no policy at all. X am etc. British Justice.
