PROCEDURE DEFINED

CIVIL PURGE IN BRITAIN APPEAL TRIBUNAL PROVIDED N.Z.P.A.—Copyright LONDON, May 20. The Government has announced its final decisions on the procedure regarding Government employees in security posts who are accused of being Communists or Fascists. Any such civil servant finally considered to be unreliable because he is a member of the Communist Party or a Fascist organisation, or is so associated with either of them that his reliability is doubtful, will be given nonsecurity work, but if that is impossible he will be dismissed unless he resigns. An appeal tribunal of three will hear such civil servant in person, but not accompanied or represented by a third party. Dismissal or resignation involves forfeiture of superannuation. The Government rejected a request that a union representative should accompany a civil servant before the appeal tribunal. Any accused civil servant will be given particulars of his alleged membership, or alleged association with Communists or Fascists that might enable him to clear himself, but he will not be told the source of the evidence against him.
