Well-known Dunedin Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding

NOTES FOR WOMEN

Mr and Mrs Richard Hudson, two of Dunedin’s most prominent citizens, who are held in high esteem by all sections of the community and enjoy the goodwill of a large circle of friends, were “at home” on Wednesday afternoon to more than 150 guests on the occasion of their golden wedding.

Mr and Mrs Hudson (the latter wearing a grey beaded gown with a shoulder spray in cyclamen tonings) stood under a horseshoe of golden flowers, where they received the congratulations of their many friends. They were assisted by Mrs Dora Smeaton in a smart suit of vieux-rose wool georgette. The reception rooms were massed with delightfully arranged flowers, many of these being tributes from well-wishers, and over 150 guests honoured the toast of the “ Bride and Bridegroom,” proposed by Mr W. R. Brugh. On the previous Sunday a family dinner was arranged to celebrate Mrs Hudson's birthday, and on Wednesday

evening Mr and Mrs Hudson entertained over 100 guests at a dance at the Brown House. For this function Mrs Hudson chose a gown of black and gold crepe with a matching cape trimmed with gold sequins and carried a bouquet of golden irises and narcissi, the gift of her grandchildren. Mrs Smeaton wore plum-coloured brocade, Mrs J. D. Hudson (Auckland) black velvet with fox cape, and Mrs Len Hudson, a gown with a black net skirt and matching bodice of velvet with fox cape and spray of orchids. Mrs Hudson, possessing a lovely soprano voice, was ipuch in demand

She is still keenly interested in music and drama, and is president - of the Dunedin Repertory Society, a vice-president of the British Drama League, patroness of the Lyric Choir, and vice-president of the Choral Society. Among other offices, she is also president of the Dunedin Travel Club, a past vice-president of the Otago Women's Club and a member of the council of the Free Kindergarten Association. Mrs Hudson takes a keen and active interest in all these or-

ganisations. She was also president of the Otago Women’s Hockey Association for 17 years, and is a past New Zealand vice-president. Mr Richard Hudson is the eldest son of Mr Richard Hudson, the founder of Hudson and Company, and was formerly managing director of that company. He is an able business man, and is well known for his public spirit and for his interest in the welfare of the city. There are three children, Mrs Dora Smeaton and Mr L. Hudson, of Dunedin, and Mr J.
