ROUGH SEAS

LITTLE DAMAGE TO MOLE The rough seas this week had caused little damage to the mole at the entrance to the Otago Harbour, stated the resident engineer, Mr A. C. Swanson, in his report to a meeting of the Otago Harbour Board last night. He had examined the mole during the height of the storm. There had been very little damage to the staging, and the stone work had withstood the seas well A few loads of heavier stone would be needed to repair the causeway where some of the light stone had been washed out. The harbourmaster, Captain F. G. Macdonald, said that the buoy had been moved, but would be returned to its original site immediately. The chairman, Mr W. R. Clarke, said that the seas had been more than 20 feet high, and Mr T. Anderson observed that the seas were “ the biggest for a very long time.’ Mr Swanson and members of the board expressed pleasure that the mole had withstood such seas so successfully.
