STRANGE DISAPPEARANCE

OCCUPIERS OF FLAT POLICE INVESTIGATING P.A. . WELLINGTON, May 20. The Wellington police are investigating the disappearance of Mr and Mrs D. Walton, former occupiers of a flat at 466 Evans Bay road, who have not been seen since January 16. The owner of the flat entered it on Tuesday and found the table set for a meal for two. The flat was in spotless condition, and what appeared to be all the occupiers' possessions, including a valuable radiogram, were still there. ... Recent advertisements and inquiries by the owner of the flat failed to result in the whereabouts of the occupiers being discovered, and it has not been possible to find anyone who has seen them since January 16: In the Magistrate’s. Court on Tuesday an order was made in favour of the owner for possession of the flat and for arrears of rent and other expenses amounting to more than £SO. The rent-was last paid on January 15, the day before the occupants were lasi seen After the order for possession was given the owner entered the flat. No clothing or other personal property of the occupiers appeared to _ have been removed. There were no signs of disorder, and preparations had been made for a meal. The owner considered the circumstances merited a report to the police, and investigations are being made. ■
