ACCURATE BOWLING

OXFORD’S GOOD SHOWING LONDON, May 19. Australia finished a fine day’s cricket with eight for 404 against Oxford. The opening partnership of 139 by Brown and Morris promised another feast of run-getting, but the- wicket later in the day began to develop patches, and a rising wind helped the swing of the right-arm medium bowlers, Whitcombe, Mal-lett, and Travers. Oxford’s brilliant fielding and the /bowlers’ accuracy made runs hard to get. Brown’s third successive century was a praiseworthy knock marred only by injudicious funning between the wickets. Morris, who seemed set for his 100, was dismissed when Brown refused a second run from a drive almost to the boundary and Morris was about halfway up the pitch. Australia’s middle batsmen failed to score changing from none for 139 to five for 214. McCool made his runs in good style. Loxton compiled an undefeated 70 in a painstaking manner. Ring enlivened the latter part of the day with a half-century in less than even time before he was bowled just as stpmps were due to be drawn.
