FREE CHURCH PROTESTS

ROYAL COUPLE CENSURED ATTENDANCE AT NIGHT CLUB ON SUNDAY N.Z.P.A.— Copyright Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, May 20. The General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland, meeting in Edinburgh, has sent Mr Attlee a resolution expressing “ grief and concern ” that Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh went to a race meeting and danced at a night club in Paris last Sunday. The Scottish Association of the Lord’s Day Observance Society also telegraphed Mr Attlee protesting against the incident. The telegram said: “This is contrary to the best traditions of the British people and set a regrettable example before the youth of the .nation. It is sincerely to be hoped the advisers of their Royal Highnesses will in future respect the religious convictions of this Christian nation.”
