TROTTING NOTES

By the Sporting Editor

May 22 .. .. .. Wellington T.C. May 29 Canterbury Park T.C. June 5, 7 Ashburton T.C. Smart Beginner Sandpiper is a smart beginner, and she should be well placed when the Winter Handicap field settles down at the Hutt Park meeting to-morrow. Red Shadow Mare Gough’s Pride collected two second placings at the recent Forbury Park meeting, and the Red Shadow mare may add to her stake winnings to-morrow. Nicely Placed If Bull’s Eye does not add to his handicap by making a slow beginning at the Wellington meeting to-morrow, he should pay expenses. Likely Place-getter Victory Globe will probably appeal to pldte-bettors when the totalisator Is opened on the Wai-iti Trot at Washdyke to-morrow. A Lengthy Spell Mandrake has not been raced since the Metropolitan meeting in August, and for that reason is not likely to be in favour at Hutt Park. Washdyke Prospect Piquant has had two races since she went into G. Cameron’s stable, and has been placed in each of them. At the Cheviot meeting she finished third to David’s Pride and Contempt in a division of the Trial Handicap, and at the Amberley meeting last month she was second to Sir Peterson in a division of the Kowai Trot. A four-year-old by Grattan Loyal, Piquant should be prominent during the running of the Wai-iti Trot at Washdyke to-morrow. Won at Manawatu Silent Knight has had only two races this season, and his record is a win and a third. At the Manawatu meeting last month he won the Ladies’ Bracelet Handicap from a big field. A four-year-old by Gallant Knight, he was got from Wrackada, by Wrack from Soda, by Harold Dillon from Franca by Franz.
