THE CHURCHILL MEMOIRS

Sir,—With considerable pleasure I noted the remarks of “ Ernesto," and I wish to associate myself with his remarks. I, too, am reading these memoirs every day, as published by you. with great enjoyment and satisfaction. A knowledge of the past as a guide for the future is indeed the sine qua non of a liberal education. It is called experience when of recent date and history when more remote. I fear that history is a subject somewhat neglected, and many of us are not as versed in it as we should be. Methinks if we were more proficient it would " save us many troubles and woes.” Therefore, in publishing these memoirs you are rendering great service and deserving of our best thanks. —I am, etc., Gandelyn.
