CENTRAL OTAGO SERVICES
Sir,—Tlie recent meeting at Alexandra shows that Central Otago is still on good terms with her “ bludger,” the city of Dunedin. It would pay Central Otago handsomely to cut herself adrift from the encumbering incubus and strike out on her own, and so end an association that during the whole of the last 100 years has seldom been to her advantage. Air transport gives her the opportunity, and she should approach the Government direct, requesting the siting of Otago’s main airport in a central position within her boundaries. Dunedin would then be served with a branch or loop line, suitable to her location on the extreme east of tha province. A branch line from Central Otago would serve the Talert in the worst atmospheric conditions, as the route from the west via Milton and Henley is very seldom too bad fo r flying. The Waitaki emergency ground would fit well into this scheme, as it would be one leg of the loop-line service.—l am, etc., • Old Bill.
