PORKER VALUES EASE

P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, May 19. The store sheep entry at Addington today was 4268, comprising -1765 lambs, 2318 ewes, and 285 wethers. The lamb offering consisted mainly o£ ewes, and met with a good inquiry at prices Is ahead of last week. The top price was 40s for a line of halfbreds. Lines of open-woolled made 37s 6d, 34s 6d, and 33s 9d, and a line of station halfbreds 35s 6d. Best made from 30s Gd to 40s; good, 26s to 30s; medium, 22s 6d to 25s Gd; small and backward, down to 17s 9d. The best of ewes were fully 2s above last week’s prices, and medium were about Is higher. The top price was 36s lOd for tire best of a line of halfbreds which had been running with Southdown rams. An attractive line of four-year-old Romneys, which had been with Southdown rams, made 35s 7d and 35s 6d. Best aged ewes made from 30s to 36s lOd; medium, 22s 6d to 28s; medium and inferior. 10s to 20s. Best wethers made from 32s 6d to 38s 6d; others, 25s 6d to 27s 6d. The fat lamb entry was 1339. The quality was mixed, and competition was strong throughout at prices above last week’s. Values; Extra prime fat lambs, to 56s Id; prime, 43s to 48s; good, 38s to 425; medium, 32s to 375; light, 25s to 31s. In the fat sheep section there was an entry of 4500. More trade buyers operated, and values for butchers’ sheep rose by 3s. Freezing sorts sold better, and rose by Is. Values; Extra prime heavy wethers, to 66s Id; prime heavy, 53s to 57."; prime medium-weight, 48s to 525; ordinary, 43s to 475; light and unfinished, 34s to 41s; prime heavy ewes, to 43s 7d; prime, 32s to 355; medium, 27s to 31s; ordinary, 22s to 265; light and unfinished, 15s to 20s. Tlie fat cattle entry totalled 541. Tile quality was indifferent. Choice beef sold steadily at last week’s prices, but plain and unfinished sorts dragged. Best beef made to 57s Gd per 1001 b, with a few sales at 60s. Good made from 45s to 52s Gd; medium, from 37s 6d to 42s 6d; best cow. to 42s 6d; secondary, to 37s 6d. Values: Extra prime heavy steers, to £24 17s Gd; prime heavy, £2O to £22; prime mediumweight, £ls 10s to £l9 10s; ordinary and light, £l3 10s to £ls. Extra prime heifers, to £22 12s 6d; prime, £ll to £ls; ordinary and light, £8 to £lO. Extra prime cows, to £l9 12s Gd; prime, £9 to £l2; ordinary and light, £G 10s to £8 10s. The porker yarding was heavy, and although the sale was good values eased by from Is to 2s. Choppers were also heavilv yarded, and prices eased by from £2 to £2 10s. Baconers were forward in medium numbers, and met with a good sale at prices unchanged on last week's.
