Sir—Arnold Bennett feald that the only chart that we have to guide our future is a knowledge of the past. 'This is so verv true that, anything which helps us towards a more complete knowledge of the past is of immense benefit. Furthermore, in these days when public opinion sways our foreign policy to a marked degree it is necessary that everyone should have such knowledge. This is a consummation devoutly to be wished and in publishing the " Memoirs" of Mr Winston Churchill you, sir, are helping Immensely. I feel sure that I am speaking in common with many others when I say that I am very grateful Indeed for the opportunity of reading and studying these memoirs in your newspaper. They are not only of great Instructive value, but are most entertainingly written by a consummate artist In words. We are made to feel In tune with him. We understand him. and he understands us. He is, as it were a sort of apotheosis of ourselves. It Is’ gratifying to know that we have In your newspaper a journal that so completely fulfils its "devoir.”—l am. etc., Ernesto.
