WELCOMED TO CITY

Commencing the brisk programme which has been arranged for them during their stay in Dunedin, 47 members of young farmers’ clubs from Manawatu were welcomed to the city by the Deputy Mayor, Cr Wright, yesterday morning. With Cr Wright was Cr Armitage, who mentioned the value of the. movement afoot to bring the town and country closer together. Brief welcoming remarks were also made by Mr B. Throp, vice-chairman of the Otago-Southland Council of Young Farmers’ Clubs, of which organisation the Manawatu visitors are the guests; Mr A. G. Elliott, Department of Agriculture; and Mr A. G. Hutton, Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mr F. Dear replied on behalf of the visitors. The party will spend almost two weeks in Dunedin before leaving for Christchurch, and their itinerary includes visits to local factories, the Waipori power station, the port, the Museum, a radio station, and a newspaper office. Yesterday afternoon they were taken on a trip around the Peninsula, the first of several trips arranged for them. They are accommodated in the Tahuna Park Showgrounds.
