LETTER FROM CHILE
WELFARE OF ANIMALS
PRAISE FOR S.P.C.A.
A letter from a brother organisation in Santiago, Chile, written in Spanish had to be translated by Dr J. R. Elder, of Dunedin, before it could be read to the committee of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at its meeting yesterday. Signed by Jorge Melendez Escobar, president of the Santiago S.P.C.A., the letter said: “ Knowing your self-deny-ing work on behalf of animals, I desire to congratulate you upon your work and to thank you for all the literature bearing upon the subject of kindness to animals which you have forwarded. , '■* Our society has been engaged 111 this struggle for 40 years and we may now congratulate ourselves upon the fact that thousands of citizens now favourably regard our campaign and are influenced by our literature and general efforts on behalf of the cause. “In all these efforts we have been greatly aided by our intercourse with societies such as yours. Such intercourse strengthens our ideals ana gives us fresh light upon our problems helping us to devise fresh methods of influencing the non-think-ing public.” The chairman commented that it was pleasing to receive such a letter, and it was agreed to send a reply.
