EMERGENCY AERODROME

CLAIMS OF BLACKHEAD

VIEWS OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The Dunedin Chamber of Commerce will continue to press lor an assurance by the Director of Aviation that an examination has been made of the site for an emergency aerodrome at Blackhead along the Green Island beach. A statement on these lines was contained in a report submitted by the executive to the meeting of the chamber yesterday afternoon. The report added that the chamber had also written to the Director of Aviation expressing satisfaction that the Government was undertaking the preparation of an emergency landing ground at Waitaki for use when the Taieri aerodrome was fog-bound. “We are pleased to learn that the Government is to prepare an emergency field at Waitaki, and when it is ready we will be pleased to use it,” said the chairman, Mr A. C. Stephens. “ We will however, still press for an investigation of Blackhead as a landing ground nearer the city.”
