UNITED NATIONS APPEAL

Sir,—l read with interest the letter of “ Two Curious Donors.” I refer particularly to the second question they asked you. I myself think, and ■ many others do, who use their brains, that if we have another world war, Britain will have Germany as an ally against Russia. Perhaps Germany, in Britain and American zones, is preparing ■ armaments in readiness for such a war. Why cannot Germany and other occupied countries in Europe be self-supporting instead of being a burden to Britain? Recently I was shown a farewell programme of a world-famous musician before she left London for an Australian tour. Her manager, under the auspices of M.C.S., had a German name, the name of the leader of the orchestra was also German, the conductor was an Englishment. In' the programme were six press notices taken from German papers after the musicians’ recent tour of Germany. Many of the greatest composers were Germans, and we know that Germany, before Hitler took control, was full of culture, if not .the cultural centre of Europe. The musician was a British colonial by birth. To me, it all looks like propaganda, but I only hope, like millions of others, that there will never be another war.—l am, etc., ~ Cards on the Table.
