BELOW QUOTA

NORTH ISLAND CONSUMPTION P.A. WELLINGTON, May 17. The North Island used 0.46 per cent, less power than it was allotted for the week ended at 9 o'clock this morning The Electricity Controller, Mr A. E. Davenport, has advised North Island power authorities that for this week they may use the scheduled figure, less 5 per cent. • Last week they were allowed the schedule less 10 per cent., and the week before it was the scheduled figure less 15 per cent. During the week up to this morning the North Island was allocated 28,904,000 units of power, and a total of 28,772,000 units was used. This was 132,000 units below the allocation.

A message from Auckland states that the restrictions were eased by most boards in the Auckland province consequent upon advice that their allocations would be increased. The 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. cut on the Auckland commercial and industrial area was cancelled, as were the remaining disconnections at night in the Waitemata Electric Power Board’s area. Improved water-heating and in some cases the limited use of electric radiators are other results of the improvement in the supply, which follows close upon a further rise in the lake levels.
